Brina is two and half weeks old, and today we introduced a bottle.
It is my expressed milk in the bottle, but I wanted her to be able to take both. At first she made a face like "what is this?" Then she tasted the milk, and that was it! She downed 4 oz. quick. I'll have to experiment a little to find out how much she'll take at one mealtime. I am happy she took to it so well though. It will definitely help during church. If I have to interpret Sunday mornings, then Mrs. Mickey or one of the other ladies can feed her and watch her for me, and my mind will be at ease to concentrate on interpreting. It was a concern I had with solely breastfeeding. It is impossible to be Mommy and interpreter at the same time. A mother's brain is tuned in to one thing and one thing only and that is the needs of her baby. If Brina's needs are met, then I can be an interpreter.
Seth was very happy that she took to the bottle too. It was soooo very exciting for him, and he kept saying over and over, "I'm so proud of you, Brina." His big brother love is so sweet to see. He is her protector, and her self-appointed teacher.
The other day, I let him hold her on the couch. I stepped around the corner to do something, and heard him talking to Brina. His monologue went something like this, "Brina, when Mommy or Daddy tell you to do something, ya gotta obey. When Mommy tells you not to touch the oil, then don't do it. When she tells you not to mess with her flowers, then just don't do it." I smiled to myself. He is so precious. He so wants Brina to be saved someday too! He will not let me forget to pray for her salvation when we say our night night prayers together!
By the way, I am also trying cloth diapers on Brina during the daytime. Ever heard of Flip diapers? I am pretty pleased with them so far. She's a bit small in the legs still, but I haven't had any major leaks with them. I think they will work great as she continues to grow. It is a one-size-fits-all diaper, so I hope to be able to use them all the way up until she is potty trained.
And speaking of potty training, I am tossing around the idea of potty training early . . . as in VERY early . . . like Maria did here. I haven't been in a rush to start, but now that I am feeling so much better . . . it might be fun to give it a try.
